Art Resume & Honors
Luo Shipeng’s practice centers on flowers and botanical forms, yet it does not aim at objective representation of nature.By deliberately blurring botanical specificity and dissolving recognizable characteristics, he creates images that feel familiar yet resist precise identification. Within this de-referential visual structure, flowers cease to function as objects of observation and instead become carriers of emotion, memory, and psychological experience.
In terms of pictorial language, Luo favors delicate, subtly nostalgic tones and lighting. His paintings often evoke the hazy texture of aged photographic film, generating a poetic atmosphere that is restrained, introspective, and quietly detached. For the artist, “painting flowers is also a way of painting people.” Creation becomes an ongoing inner dialogue—one that moves through struggle, revision, and reconciliation, ultimately arriving at a state of balance and calm.
From the darker palettes and tense compositions of his early period, through a brighter and more open middle phase shaped by changes in personal circumstances, to his recent reflections on the relationship between individual experience and society, Luo’s work reveals a clear yet inwardly driven evolution. Rather than pursuing explicit narratives, his paintings focus on how emotions are slowly formed, accumulated, and perceived within the image by the viewer.
Luo Shipeng has held solo exhibitions and participated in major art exhibitions across China, including:
