Fu Yibing

Fu Yibing (b. 1985, Yueyang, Hunan, China) is recognized as a leading figure among China’s post-1985 generation of contemporary oil painters. His practice centers on the expressive potential of painting, defined by a dynamic interplay of colour, gesture, and materiality.

Working between Eastern and Western visual traditions, Fu brings their philosophical and emotional dimensions into dialogue, developing a distinctive painterly language that is both rooted and forward-looking. His work reflects a continuous negotiation between tradition and innovation.

A key aspect of his practice is plein-air painting; he spends over six months each year traveling and working directly from nature. Drawing from these experiences, his paintings transform landscape into vivid, emotionally charged compositions, where the energy and rhythm of nature are reimagined through a poetic and highly personal visual language.
